Artist Statement

My latest body of work delves into the visceral connection between song lyrics and the visual imagery they evoke. Each piece begins with a song chosen based on my current mood, an idea, or an emotion I feel compelled to explore. Music conjures vivid scenarios, people, and places in my mind, and I translate these mental pictures into compositions using generative AI. This digital process allows me to manipulate and edit the images, guiding them towards the vision I see in my mind's eye.

In creating these works, I draw heavily from the graffiti street art aesthetic. The anonymity, spontaneity, and rawness of graffiti resonate deeply with me, offering a texture and compositional freedom that fuels my creativity. I appreciate the unrestrained possibilities it presents and the bold statements it can make.

My work is constructed using a variety of materials, including paper, resin, charcoal, modeling paste, and acrylic paint. These elements come together to form a tactile and dynamic surface that reflects the energy and emotion of the music that inspired it.

Ultimately, my interest lies in capturing my response to music, creating works that evolve beyond my initial concept through the act of making. The formal choices and serendipitous moments during the creation process lead to new insights and possibilities. In a way, my work reinterprets the music, giving it a new visual life and allowing it to exist in a form that is both derivative and original. Through my art, I hope to offer a fresh perspective on the music that moves me, creating something new and evocative.
